Bits and Pieces

James Dickson aged 104
  •   Mary Hilliard wrote about James Dickson - “JD Caswell, brought his grandfather to Palmerston to spend his last years.” Mary told a story that she had heard from a neighbour woman “Old James Dickson, who was 112 when he died, grew so mean that everybody was glad when the old man died."
  •   London Free Press of Friday, Apr 7, 1876 states: “Biddulph Township has now been declared the possessor of the title “oldest inhabitant.’’ His name is James Dickson, and he was born in 1766, so that he is thus 111 years of age...Mr. Dickson’s better half is 90 years of age, and is as hale and hearty as her husband. They are able to travel around, and have just left their home for Palmerston, where they intend making a short stay with Mr. Caswell of that town.
  • London Advertiser, Thursday, April 13, 1876 states that “James Dickson, 111 years, a resident near Granton for the past 28 years (which would make it 1848) was taken by his grandson, Mr. JD Caswell, to Palmerston, Ontario, where he intends to spend the remainder of his days.
  • From Rob’s notes we know that Ferris is a relative on the Dickson/Wallace side.  Rob’s notes also mentioned that when the Caswell’s came to Canada they brought Caswell and Wallace cousins.  I am slowly unraveling the Caswell cousins but have not worked on the Wallace or Ferris connection.
  •   I have seen the name “James Thomas Dickson” used in various trees on the web - where did middle name come from?  I can’t find Thomas in any of my documents.
